ISU economist challenges grain embargo as price culprit

Iowa State University economist Mike Boehlis told the Young Farmer Holiday Conference in Little Amana that the 1980 Carter embargo is not the cause of current low grain prices. He cited Canada’s credit to the Soviets and a stronger dollar as factors, urged hedging and farm programs, and noted farmers face liquidity issues rather than asset problems. The two day event ends today with multiple sessions and a talk by Phil Hufford.
