Censors Win Half the Time in School Library Bans
A UW Madison study of 739 challenges from 1987 to 1990 finds censorship attempts in U S secondary schools succeeded about 50 percent. Materials were removed 26 percent and restricted by age 22 percent, while officials kept holdings in 52 percent. The most challenged works include Forever by Judy Blume Go Ask Alice The Chocolate War Clan of the Cave Bear. Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and Rolling Stone led magazines challenged.

December 1991 Cedar Rapids Weather Totals Record Lows
December 1991 brought less precipitation and snow, with higher temperatures than the previous year. Airport rainfall 1.37 inches and 4.4 inches snow. Marion 1.59 inches rain and 4.1 inches snow. A 3.6 inch 24 hour snowfall on December 2 and 0.57 inch rain on December 20. Daily highs reached 57 degrees on December 12 with lows to minus 5 on December 4, a new record low surpassing 1898.

North Dakota teen recovers after farm accident arms reattached
An 18 year old Hurdsfield resident injured in a farming accident had both arms reattached and is recovering at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale Minnesota. Surgeon Dr. Allen Van Beek said major surgeries are complete but further work on the arms is required. The teen was entangled in machinery January 11 and walked home 400 feet to call for help using a twisted doorknob and pencil in his mouth.
