M and M Mars plans a lighter Milky Way dubbed Milky Way II offering 25 percent fewer calories and 3 fewer fat grams than the standard bar. The new bar will sell for 55 cents, up from 45 cents. Nutritionist Bonnie Liebman cautions that 8 grams of fat are still high and compares it to whole milk.

Cedar Rapids police officer Joseph Schmitz is suspended one day without pay for allegedly taking a brownie at HandiMart Food Store on December 19. The letter from Police Chief Bud Byrne notes Schmitz denies wrongdoing and may appeal to the Civil Service Commission.
Bill Clinton rejects tabloid reports of extramarital affairs as a Republican in Arkansas allegedly provided legal advice to the man spreading the claims. Nichols, fired in 1988, has accused Clinton of multiple affairs but offered no evidence. Hillary Clinton says public life erodes privacy and personal space.
