First Half January Interior Hog Run Rises 22 Percent
Interior hog runs in Iowa and southern Minnesota for the first sixteen days of January totaled 402,400 head, up 43 percent from late December and 22 percent above early December. The week after the Supreme Court decision on the AAA spurred sales, but prices did not rise as much as expected after the processing tax was removed. Hog prices showed mixed changes with loins and shoulders down, while chops and roasts offered some relief for consumers, and overall interior market receipts for the week fell short of prior weeks.
