A cyclone struck Fyffe Alabama killing Claude Portwood 35 his wife 30 Robert Rowell 45 and his eight year old daughter. Four homes and a garage were wrecked injuring a dozen others. A cloudburst hindered travel while Rains nearby reported several damaged homes with no serious injuries. Ambulances from Ft Payne were sent to Fyffe for temporary hospital care.
The five member review committee of the federal home loan bank board unanimously disapproved granting a charter for a federal savings and loan association at Cedar Rapids. The full board is not expected to act until Monday or Tuesday and is likely to affirm the committee’s recommendation to deny.

W. W. Boland, 65, of 1722 First avenue E, suffered fractured ribs after his car hit a street car on Third avenue near Eighth street SW at 9 p.m. Friday. He was treated at St. Luke's hospital and discharged. Motorman was W. N. McPherson. Boland said snow blinded him. Lloyd Bryant escaped injury when his car hit a heavy truck operated by Charles Perry of Keystone on Second avenue SE between Fifth and Sixth streets at 4 p.m. Friday. Perry said Bryant forced him to move. Police will verify Bryant's account.
Rome quoted a southern Ethiopian front communique claiming Italian forces advanced 125 miles in a week long battle. The high command raised Ethiopian casualties to 5 000 while Italian losses were not disclosed. Diplomats eyed Geneva as Eden pledged continued support for league peace actions.
The Senate convened at noon on a tense Saturday to pass the $2.37 billion baby bond bonus bill before nightfall. A key inflation amendment by Sen. Elmer Thomas proposed issuing about $2 billion in new money to fund the bonus, replacing bond issuance.
