Eastern Iowa high school basketball saw Williamsburg fall 80-61 to Keota while New Hampton lost to Waverly 62-53. English Valley beat West Chester to lead, Decorah edged Cedar Falls, and Durant-West Branch-Wilton Junction share the conference lead after events. Garnaville girls clinched Upper Mississippi honors with a 64-43 win.
In Tokyo Sadao Yaoita upset world flyweight champion Pascual Perez of Argentina with a unanimous decision. Perez, 32, entered with 48 wins and one draw since 1952, but failed to deliver knockdowns as the bout remained cautious until an eighth round toe-to-toe exchange.

Belle Plaine beat Toledo 58-49 in South Iowa Cedar play, Corns leading BP. Waverly defeated New Hampton 62-53 in Northeast Iowa with Brunn scoring 22 for W and Josephson 16 for NH. Winthrop beat Lamont 49-38, Lisbon topped Central City 86-81 in girls and 68-56 in boys, Williamsburg upset by Keota 80-36, Center Point-Alburnett 60-35 with girls 49-48 for A. Wilton Junction and West Liberty split. Danner 22 for WL and WJ’s Wacker 20.
CEDAR FALLS The Iowa Teachers' freshman team kept its perfect record Friday with a 71-40 win over Sanitary Dairy of Cedar Rapids. Mike McBride scored 13 for the Tutors. Bob Christensen led Sanitary Dairy with 14.
East Moline extends its Mississippi Valley lead to 13 games and reaches an all time school mark with an 11 game winning streak. The Panthers defeat Iowa City 56 47 to drop the Little Hawks to 5th and push Quad City teams to the top four spots. Ken Fisher leads Iowa City with 19 points while Jim Hughes and Gary Hobbs add 16 for East Moline.
Elgin Baylor faces NBA discipline after a sit down protest over segregation at a local hotel. The rookie sat out Friday night as the Lakers lost to the Cincinnati Royals 95 to 91. Teammates Ed Fleming and Boo Ellis each scored six points in the game. Baylor had earlier warned owner Bob Short he would not play again after being barred from a hotel for racial reasons.
Boone AP reports a revised schedule for Iowa high school indoor track meets. Class AA and A will run March 21 while classes B and C compete April 4 at the University of Iowa fieldhouse. A new rule prohibits coach inducements to pull runners from relays without a chance to place, aiming to save athletes for other events.
Davenport wrestlers dominated Washington in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet winning 36-8 with three falls including Larry Bewley at 112 pounds. Heavyweight Bob Stevens pinned Ralph Otterson in 3 57 as Day team members earned several decisions and pins.

A light offbeat comedy from Twentieth Century Fox stars Tom Ewell Mickey Rooney and Mickey Shaughnessy as likable petty criminals who turn to crime for a quick gain then face a string of misadventures. Dina Merrill co stars alongside Rex Reuse and Dick Foran at the State theater.
Paulie Armstead from Los Angeles defeated Len Matthews of Philadelphia by a points decision. In Vernal Utah Lamar Clark from Cedar City stopped Paxton from Phoenix in the first round. Tokyo action had Sadao Yaoia beating Pascual Peres of Argentina over ten rounds non title.
