Cornell To Hold Scholarship Tests At Cornell College
Senior high school students are invited to scholarship exams and interviews at Cornell College on Feb 14. Full and half tuition awards totaling up to 900 and 450 dollars yearly for four years will be offered. Four William Fletcher King scholarships and two conservatory music awards are available. Applicants must file by Feb 1 and will be judged on rank, aptitude scores, and need. Exams, interviews, and auditions for music grants will be held on campus with residence hall housing and meals provided.

Bertram Fire Meeting Sets First West Bertram Chief
Howard Peckham was named first fire chief of the West Bertram district at a Friday night organizational meeting. Officers and committees will be named at the next meeting January 27 in the B L Anderson building on Mt Vernon Ave SE. The group discussed operating a volunteer fire department and reported reciprocal fire protection with Cedar Rapids and nearby departments. A vote formed the volunteer department and fundraising, routes, and other tasks began. The district thanked Contractor B L Anderson for the meeting space and Miles Sutera for locating a used fire truck for possible purchase.
