Miss Helen Jayne hosts Alpha Xi Delta alumnae dinner at 6:30 p.m. assisted by Mrs. Kenneth Myers and Mrs. R. B. Moore. Ten Cedar Rapids girls traveled to Iowa City on Wednesday for a surprise party honoring Miss Ann Hadman visiting the city.
Mr and Mrs Joe Faltis of 925 Twentieth Street SE will depart Tuesday for a three months stay in Los Angeles. They were hosted over the holidays by their daughters Mrs J E Robiole and Mr Robiole of Los Angeles and by Mrs R E Burgilt and Mr Burgilt with Bobby of Rock Island. Mr Robiole left for New York on business and Mrs Robiole will join later to arrange their parents western residence.
Miss Margaret Hadley bride elect of Richard K. Preston of Washington DC is honored at two pre nuptial events in Cedar Rapids this weekend. A cocktail party hosts list includes Maxine Culbertson Betty Schmidt and Margaret Clarke with guests from Iowa City Marion Fairfax and West Branch. A Commonwealth tea room dinner concludes the festivities with gifts for the bride elect.
Ashley chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its first meeting of the year next Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Bungalow of the Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. Mrs. Harold R. Trewin will show colored motion pictures and discuss her trip to the West Indies and the northern coast of South America. Hostesses are Mesdames C. H. Wilkins C. W. Boegel O. S. Johnson E. G. Paxton J. D. Stickley and Miss L. Maude Carr.
The contemporary literature study group meets Monday at 7 p.m. at Miss Mary Kehoe 1896 Third avenue SE with Florence Leiter reviewing Seven Grass Huts by C. H. Matschal. The creative art group gathers Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with Mrs. C. H. Cooper 1852 D avenue NE. The international relations group meets Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at Mrs. Carl Ettinger 2635 Bever avenue SE. Mr and Mrs Wendell Culp of Dubuque visit the Beems 377 Twenty-first street SE. Mrs Culp’s paintings display January 15 at Cedar Rapids Art Association gallery. The Wednesday Shakespeare club meets at Mrs. James Kewley Commonwealth apartments to study Henry VI Act IV. The League of Women Voters holds a Wednesday meeting at the Montrose hotel with a 11:30 a.m. board session, 12:30 p.m. lunch, and program led by Bernice Toms. Jessie Parker of Des Moines will speak. Call 2-7010 to attend. Members J P Mills and Ben Ogden will be in Des Moines Monday for the state board meeting. Mrs Bernard Bruce Smith returns to Lincoln after holidays with her parents at 349 Twenty-fifth street SE. Mr Smith went back to Lincoln earlier.
Members of chapter GM of P. E. O. will meet with Mrs. C. J. Lynch Jr at 1841 Bever avenue SE Monday at 7 30 p m. Miss Nelle Boyack will assist and Mrs. Charles J Bready will give a travel talk.
Mrs E E Shenefelt of Vernon Drive SE began collecting Wedgwood jasper about five years ago. Her 36 items span jugs, teapots, boxes and vases from Cedar Rapids to New York City and Canada. She aims for varied colors and designs, noting pieces marked Wedgwood before 1891, and hopes to add red or pink pieces no longer produced.
Dr. Ben H. Peterson and Dr. Alice B. Salter reigned as king and queen at Coe College faculty Twelfth Night party in the recreation room of the men’s gym. Crowned by Mrs. John M. Henry, the Martha Marquis circle hostess group, the event featured games and prizes awarded to Dr. Myron L. Koenig Alma Turechek Kathryn York and William Evans. The program closed with a playlet by Coe students Dorothy Thompson Lois Himebaugh Hena Moershel Kathryn Skow.
The annual Camp Fire dinner will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Elks club with Rev. William A. Jacobs as guest speaker. Attendees include Camp Fire council members sponsors and guardians and representatives of other youth organizations in Cedar Rapids. Joan Yessler will sing and a Camp Fire girls quartet will perform. Mrs. Jay Hesser will chair the business session featuring officer elections and talks by Jean Denton and Mrs. G Wood.
Glenis Hopkins daughter of Mr and Mrs Glenn W Hopkins hosted a birthday luncheon at their 2030 Grande avenue SE home Saturday afternoon. After lunch guests enjoyed roller skating at a local rink with a list of friends and club members.
