INDEPENDENCE The 452 cows 87 dry on test during December in the Wapsie Valley Cow Test association averaged 673 pounds of milk and 27.9 pounds of butterfat. Vern Osborne had high herd with 10 grade Guernseys averaging 1,021 pounds of milk and 50.3 pounds of butterfat. High individual was a grade Guernsey in the Clarence Bodicker herd producing 1,283 pounds of milk and 80.2 pounds of butterfat. Fifty-four cows made 40 to 50 pounds of butterfat, 31 from 50 to 60, 15 from 60 to 70, and one over 80.

Ewe sale in Cedar Rapids features Wagor picking 100 head
A Sunday photograph at Cedar Rapids railway stockyards shows 208 western ewes bought by Richard Wagor of Central City and his father John, who selected 100 head at 6.25 dollars each from seller Guy Cole. The ewes, crossbreds Rambouillet with Shropshire or Hampshire, averaged 115 pounds and aged 3 to 6 years. They were bred to lamb in late March and April.

Butterfat Price At West Union Plant Sets Year Figures
West Union Farmers creamery reported 1939 averages of 28.16 cents per pound for butterfat and 24.15 cents for butter sold. The plant manufactured 515,939 pounds of butter, with 432,586 shipped, 25,214 sold to patrons, and 58,139 to local stores. Overrun stood at 24.35 percent, with total sales income of $128,238 versus $150,619 in 1938.
