Bakon Nitrate-Free Bacon Faces Industry Pushback
Ray Kennedy markets Bakon a nitrate-free bacon substitute claiming it tastes and looks like real bacon. The USDA eyes a possible ban on nitrates used in meat, threatening to curb Bakon sales and echoing a battle Kennedy has waged for years with industry and regulators. Kennedy says the product proves nitrosamines can be avoided and vows to use the label bacon if approved.

Washington reports on the Patrons of Husbandry, the Grange, still present in 5,500 halls across 37 states. About 140,000 members gather annually for ritual, lectures, and community programs, led since 1968 by National Master John Scott who hopes for a 1978 turnaround and gains after decades of decline.
