Pickands Mather and Co. reclaimed about 2,200 acres of iron ore land near Hoyt Lakes Minnesota by transforming lifeless rock into workable soil. The process uses mechanical devices to fracture rock and spread fertilizer to encourage root growth.
The USDA accuses Iowa Beef Processors Inc and Columbia Foods Inc of forming a joint venture with North West Feeders Corp to feed, slaughter, process and market cattle in Idaho Washington Oregon and Montana. The venture could remove 348000 head of cattle from the open market and raise irreparable harm, with a show cause hearing set for April 17 before U.S. District Judge Fred Taylor.
