Gasohol tax break extension fails in committee
A House Ways and Means panel defeated a bill to extend the gasohol tax exemption to 1988 by a 14 to 19 vote. Critics argued the subsidy drains road funds, while supporters said it would stabilize the ethanol industry and attract plants. A separate plan creates a 500000 dollar yearly ethanol incentive fund offering 25 cents per gallon for producers for up to 100000 gallons of high proof ethanol.
