Open division shocks at Cedar Rapids Golden Gloves

Three former Golden Gloves champions were eliminated as Tuesday night’s preliminary rounds trimmed the Open division to 8 champions. Dean Hite and Leo Peters won convincing decisions, while Doug Baker’s narrow loss to Tate Wilson set up a high profile heavyweight title bout with Frank Davis. Twenty-one novices also advanced, with 24 fights slated for next Tuesday’s final.

St Pat's Ousts Toledo in Class A Sectional Showdown

St Pat's senior Lynn Trosky scored 19 as St Pat's defeated Toledo 64 to 32 to reach the semifinals while Tama edged Center Point 60 to 53. The winners meet in a semifinal at 7 PM with Keystone and Dysart in the other semi at 8:30 PM.

Meek and Baker Exit After Losses in 1959 Gloves Finale
