Candle fires at Cedar Rapids woman’s apartment
Fire investigators say a candle in Maria Pilapil’s Oak Hill Manor apartment started a blaze that damaged a second floor unit at 1321 15th St SE just before 7:30 a.m. Pilapil, 77, was taken to Mercy Medical Center for possible smoke inhalation as about six lit candles ignited cardboard nearby.
