Dallas uses fear to deter drunken driving among youth
In Dallas County a "scared straight" program shows graphic crash photos and hospital scenes to young offenders ages 15 to 24. Participants attend a four hour seminar, tour Parkland Memorial Hospital, and write an essay about their drunken driving offense. The Youthful Drinking Driver Program began with a $12,000 county grant and aims to reduce DWIs by fostering life preservation, with 18 participants completed and none re-arrested so far.
