Y2K passes without power or phone disruption in Iowa
As midnight bells rang in 2000, Eastern Iowa enjoyed a smooth rollover with no outages or glitches. Fireworks at City Park near Hancher Auditorium delighted about 150 spectators while Dr. Martin Helmke and others celebrated. University Hospitals reported the first baby of 2000 born at 12:31 a.m. Alliant Energy reported system green across its four-state service area and no Y2K problems were reported statewide.
