Building Plan Church Breaks Ground After October Meeting
In October 1936 a church board proposed a new building and the congregation pledged 2200 dollars and labor. Two 60 foot lots at 13828 K St. SW were bought from the John W. Yuill estate. A donor from a Chicago firm designed the plan. On November 5 twenty men began digging the basement with Pastor Russell leading daily in overalls. The crew laid a 5 foot basement depth ten days later and footing work continued as members mixed mortar alongside hired masons.
