Paramount Donated Gift To Cedar Rapids Theater Center

The Bezansons contributed to the Paramount theater project with plans for remodeling costing up to 100000 dollars under the performing arts commission. The Dubin sky Brothers Theatres may expand Lindale Plaza into a double theater and possibly open a downtown Cedar Rapids complex.

Cedar Rapids To Open Paramount Theater for Arts

The Cedar Rapids Organ Society gift funds a new building housing a theater on upper floors with stores and offices below. It will be named the Paramount Theater for the Performing Arts. No regular movies will be shown except special classical screenings. Ramps for the handicapped will be added and elderly patrons will pay discounted admission.

Sheriff Rejects Levy on Linn County Property

The state filed a lien against Linn County for 191.40 in unpaid sales taxes and penalties. A county attorney's opinion says the county need not collect sales tax, but the state pursues collection. Lt. David Webster says levying on county property is illegal, and Auditor Merle Kopel estimates a state audit could cost about 500 dollars.

Man Charged with Gas Station Theft

Steven Donald Gatto 19 of 3832 Scuttercourt SE charged with larceny for stealing $150 from Kaye's Vernon Village gas station at 3349 Mt Vernon road SE. He was held in county jail in lieu of a $500 bond.

First Degree Murder Count Filed in Teenager Death

Buchanan County Attorney Daryl Roberts filed a true information in Buchanan County District Court accusing Gary L. Frazer 25 of first degree murder in the death of Sheila Lynn Foley 16. Frazer was arrested Dec. 12 and held without bond. Miss Foley was last seen Dec. 2 and body found Dec. 10 on a deserted road. autopsy results pending with unconfirmed reports she was run over. Frazer’s arraignment and bond hearing are scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Buchanan County District Court.

Attic Fire Investigated at Dean Sutliff Residence

Fire officials investigated an attic fire Thursday at the Dean Sutliff residence on 1437 Miami Drive NE. Reported at 7:35 p.m., the blaze was confined to the attic and contents with water damage to the one story brick house. no occupants were home at the time.

C R Man Faces Larceny Charge

Robert A. Teslik, 19, of 523 Seventh Avenue SW, charged with larceny for taking less than $20 from Tammy Boyles. Deputies say the arrest clears larcenies from three homes in recent weeks, totaling about $40 in two cases and $20 in the third in Center Point Todd area. Teslik held in county jail in lieu of $1,000 bond.

Camp Appeals Conviction in Wounded Knee Case

The attorney for American Indian Movement leader Carter Camp has filed a notice of appeal in Cedar Rapids federal court. Camp was convicted of interference with a postal inspector and sentenced to three years, with the case advancing to the Eighth Circuit on appeal. Camp and two other AIM leaders were found guilty in June by a Cedar Rapids jury. one count against Camp was dropped after he failed to appear for sentencing and remained a fugitive until his Nov 30 arrest in Chicago.
