Des Moines Selected in National Food Radioactivity Survey

Belle Plaine Elects School Board Directors

Five directors and a treasurer were elected to the Belle Plaine Community School District board in a light vote. Frank Hlavecek won 116 votes over Norris Anderson. Benton No. 2 saw Paul Schild prevail 33 to 10 for Charles McLennon and 15 for Robert Holst. Elected without opposition were Lester Musel Tama No. 1 Laurence White and Leonard Benesh. Fern Throndson won treasurer without opposition.

Clarke Instructor To Study Physics at SUI

Sister Mary Briant Clarke College instructor received a National Science Foundation faculty fellowship in physics at the University of Iowa for 1961 62. She is Phi Beta Kappa and chairs the physics section of the Iowa Academy of Science and has held NSF summer grants for study at Reed College and the University of California.

State to skip salting two Iowa highways this winter

The State Highway Commission said it will not salt Highway 52 from Dubuque to Luxemburg and Highway 136 from Dyersville to Luxemburg during icy conditions this winter. Officials cited low traffic counts as the reason no salting work will be warranted.
