Offer Tips To Prevent Holiday Fires, Thefts
Cedar Rapids police and fire departments urge residents to guard homes and cars during the holidays. Police Chief George J. Matias urges neighborly watchfulness and reporting any suspicious activity. Tips include locking houses for short trips, hiding packages in trunks, and avoiding leaving valuables in cars. Fire officials advise using fresh trees, keeping water, avoiding DIY flameproofing, and checking lights for defects. Downtown shoppers may receive leaflets from junior police about safe street crossing practices.
