Belfast AP report details a daytime bombing at Balmoral Furnishings on Shankill Road that killed four people, including two children, and injured at least 19. Shoppers searched rubble as soldiers and police fought crowds, amid rising sectarian violence and a separate hall clash leaving a man dead.
Ankara AP reports Prime Minister Adnan Menderes Erim named a new government Saturday and declared the Turkish political crisis finished. The move ends days of cabinet turmoil as Erim seeks to stabilize leadership and policy direction in Turkey.
A violent storm packing spadoes and wild winds tore through the South and lower Midwest Friday. Three persons were killed and 28 were injured as tornado warnings were issued for nine states from Arkansas and Mississippi to Michigan. The system dumped heavy rains and caused widespread damage from Oklahoma to the Great Lakes, with multiple fatalities and injuries across Oklahoma, Indiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Texas, and Illinois.

West Germany agreed to spend 182 million dollars to improve teen barracks of American troops stationed in Germany. The plan aims to upgrade living quarters and facilities for U.S. service members abroad.

Authorities continued Saturday to connect the Friday armed robbery of a Hy‑Yi supermarket in Mount Pleasant with the abduction of University of Iowa student Phillip Frantz, 22, of Springfield Ohio. Frantz was found bound in the trunk of his car near the State Mental Health Institute after the car was abandoned by two men. A Des Moines man, Phillip Cuevas, 31, was arrested at a roadblock in Fairfield on robbery with aggravation charges. President Nixon signed a bill cutting individual and business taxes by 15.8 billion dollars over three years. It creates refunds averaging 3200 for about three million new car buyers and repeals the 7 percent automobile excise tax retroactive to August 16.
