Lao Natasin dancers start new life in Iowa after exile
Des Moines hosts the Lao Natasin National Music and Dance Troupe now in exile from Laos. The group, once sponsored by the Lao government, rebuilt in a Thai refugee camp before resettling with sponsorship from Des Moines and Iowa agencies. A $24,900 NEA grant aided the reorganization as the troupe declared love for Iowa.

Auditor criticizes Scott County fund mismanagement
Iowa State Auditor Richard D. Johnson reported nearly 4390 dollars in institutional collections for Scott County were not deposited with the county treasurer between September 1979 and August 1980. The funds largely went to a bank account tied to the former auditor’s office employee and were withdrawn by various checks. The auditor urged independent handling of deposits and monthly reconciliations, which the county auditor has since implemented.
