Tehran rejects submitting the shah’s wealth to U.S. courts as part of four conditions for freeing the 52 hostages. Nabavi confirms Iran will not accept the court option and says a reply to U.S. proposals is pending through Algerian intermediaries. Officials say two conditions may be met, but no release date is given.
Robert McLaughlin, a partially deaf mail clerk, alleges improper suspension for refusing to sit at a 45 degree angle while scanning letters. He says supervisor Darrel Mathews acted illegally by suspending him for seven days without a hearing and seeks back pay and expungement.
Richard Williams announced he will finish the 1980-81 season with Cedar Rapids Symphony before becoming musical director of the Virginia Philharmonic in Norfolk. He has led the orchestra since 1970 and says he will complete all current concerts, starting Virginia tenure in 1981-82.
