Shelly Manne Quintet played two hours of modern jazz in the Coe auditorium on Monday night. Sponsored by the Coe student council, the concert drew about 800 students with a few adults in attendance.
The Cedar Rapids City Council passes Ordinance 638 amending Chapter 22 of the Municipal Code to set new water rates including 33 to 13 cents per 100 Cu Ft tiers and minimum monthly charges. Delinquency penalties apply and outside-city properties pay 50 percent more. Immediate for public health and safety. Published December 9 1958.
A close knit lineup including Russ Freeman Joe Gordon Herb Geller and Monte Budwig presented a pure form of jazz free of frills. The concert emphasized serious music with home style manuscripts on steel racks and eschewed encores and showy attire.
