Farm Tax Rise Seen for 1959 Billions in Revenue Forecast

United States Agriculture Department economists forecast a 14 percent rise in farmers taxes for 1959 to about 2.595 billion dollars. Property taxes on farm real estate likely reach 1.105 billion, with per acre costs rising to 1.02 dollars, while farm income taxes may total 1.25 billion. Social security changes add to the tax burden as rates rise January 1.

USDA Bought No Eggs Last Week

Washington reports the USDA did not purchase any dried whole egg solids last week as offers were too high versus shell egg prices. Since October 15 purchases for National School Lunch Program were 4,162,500 for school use.

Canada Feeder Cattle Up 38 Percent in October

Canada showed a 38 percent rise in cattle on feed for October compared with the same month in 1957, based on USDA figures. The surge reflects stronger feedlot activity and higher demand for finishing cattle.

Knickerbocker Retires From ASC Grain Post

C. J. Knickerbocker of Fairfax retires as district grain supervisor for 13 eastern Iowa counties after four years. He oversaw about 15 million bushels of government grain and managed care, quality, and movement to storage or market. Carl Kress of Independence is named successor. The Knickerbockers will spend the winter in Fort Myers, Florida, returning in spring.
