The Gazette reports a 5.8 percent jump in alcohol sales from 2016 to 2017 as the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division pumps about 134 million dollars into public coffers. Iowa remains the sole state liquor wholesaler with a 50 percent price mark up. The division released its annual report Thursday detailing taxes on beer wine and other fees and showing Black Velvet Canadian whiskey as the top selling brand while Tanqueray Gin sits at the bottom of the Top 50. Whiskey vodka tequila brandy and rum sales rose overall while gin declined 1.7 percent.
