Farm Bureau softens opposition to price supports

The Iowa Farm Bureau eased its stance on government price supports and favored a future set aside program. Delegates at Des Moines debated for 45 minutes during the convention’s final session, with Dennis Seikora of Marion leading the pro set aside motion and Harold Bjustrom of Whittemore proposing gradual elimination of price supports. The vote backed the amendment, though no formal tally was recorded, and the issue may influence national policy at the January American Farm Bureau Federation meeting in San Diego.
