Keokuk Man’s Body Recovered From Quarry Swim

A 23 year old Keokuk man, identified as Paul Southworth, drowned in Harts Quarry 44 miles west of Keokuk. Rescue workers from the Keokuk Volunteer Emergency Corps found his body at 2:58 a.m. Thursday after a call that one of four swimmers hadn’t resurfaced.

Former Marion man murdered in Fayetteville shooting

A former Marion man, Sgt. 1st Class Steven E. Tuthill, 33, was found dead from a single gunshot in a Fayetteville house. Glenna L. Sansome is charged with second degree murder and free on $30,000 bail after a late night argument led to a single shot from a .22 caliber pistol.

Study Finds 7 Percent Cut in Domestic Programs 1982 85

The Budget Office report says 7 percent reduction across 1982 to 1985 in domestic programs, with the largest dollar cuts in retirement disability and employment programs. Means tested benefits fall about 8 percent, non means tested about 4 percent. Projected 1982 85 spending for retirement and disability programs down 3 percent.

Vinton man's manslaughter trial reset for December
