Hearing Set on Rock Island Action in Des Moines
DES MOINES AP A hearing will be held Thursday morning on the State Commerce Commission petition asking Polk county district court to order Rock Island to resume its eastbound morning Rocket. The petition seeks injunction and restoration of the 8 p.m. Chicago to Des Moines Rocket and the Des Moines 7 a.m. departure. Rock Island halted the trains Sunday, claiming loss of patronage and revenue. The commission had ordered 60 days of operation but the railroad argued approval is needed only when dropping the last train. A daily $50 judgment was asked for each day the trains do not operate. Des Moines and nearby cities would be affected by the discontinuation.
