AP report notes Japanese firms control about two thirds of U.S. sewing machine sales, with Singer the sole major American survivor. Prices undercut U.S. models by 100 to 150 dollars due to lower labor and material costs. U.S. labor costs run about eight times higher. The shift follows postwar industrial dynamics and import competition.

The Council Against Bullfighting pushes to block any prospect of bullfighting in Britain. Leading figures include Baron Grey de Ruthyn and supporters such as Bertrand Russell Bishop Huddleston Lord Dowding and publisher Victor Gollancz rallying opposition to bullfighting.
On August 9 1960 J H Calder was duly appointed as executor of the Bertha A Calder estate in Linn County Iowa. Creditors must file duly authenticated claims with Imogen B Emery attorney and the Clerk of Linn County District Court.
