Smiles come from saying cheese merger reshapes dairies
Northeast Iowa farmers joined Wisconsin Dairies in a major 1960s 70s consolidation forming a large co op with Meadow Land Dairy and Cresco Creamery. The merger spurred higher production and new facilities while ending some member payments and routes. Some farmers moved to smaller plants, but most stayed for market power and efficiency.
