Coralville adopts new recreation center master plan options
Coralville City Council adopted a master plan with two options for renovating or replacing its 50 year old recreation center at 1506 Eighth St. The build option would create a new center east of the current site, stay open during construction, and cost 50 to 55.4 million. The renovation option would repurpose most existing space and add an east wing at 52 to 56.2 million. Both include three pools and an indoor track.

Ex-sheriff's employee charged with contraband at jail
Des Moines Iowa ex Polk County Sheriff official Mario Rocha 26 was arrested on four counts of possessing contraband in a correctional facility. Rocha a detention officer resigned August 4 2024 admitted possession after a tip led to a search warrant and video evidence. He posted bond and was released the same day. Sheriff Schneider described transparency and corrective action while stating no other staff involved.
