Family of woman killed in crash seeks lengthy prison term

Kristina Pearson, 30, was killed Aug 7, 2023, when Drake Brezina ran red lights driving a Chevrolet Silverado through two intersections on Highway 6 in Iowa City. Pearson’s mother spoke at Brezina’s sentencing as the family seeks 15 years in prison.

COVID-19 numbers rise again in Iowa and nation

Erin Murphy reports the rise in COVID-19 metrics across Iowa and the United States. In Iowa, more than 20 percent of tests were positive the week ending August 3, ICU and ER visits edged up to about 2 percent, and deaths remained low with two that week. Wastewater data show Iowa at high activity while 11 states are very high and the national level is very high per CDC readings.
