Few Farm Operators To Take WPA Drought Relief Jobs
Plans to add 5,000 WPA workers in 43 drought counties were approved by district directors and Chicago officials. Most new jobs will go to farm hands with pay ranging from 40 to 48 dollars monthly, for graveling school and construction work. Farmers may seek mostly character loans from the rural resettlement administration, while 15,000 farmers will not be hired. All new and existing WPA workers must be certified by IERA.

Mrs C C Dane of four miles east of Williamsburg removed a glass shard from her finger after more than three decades. She had been injured as a child when a glass splinter penetrated the finger during dishwashing. The fragment loosened during washing and was finally extracted.

Maquoketa Man Held For Robbery Of Cafe
Floyd Reynolds, 23, is jailed after confessing to breaking into the Al Ellwanger cafe Monday night and rifling the cash register of 17 dollars. Mrs Ellwanger found the theft Tuesday morning. Deputies Cahill and Weaver arrested Reynolds within an hour with the cash. Reynolds is a deaf mute who formerly worked in the cafe.

Sheriff Henry Eichhorn escorted two prisoners to Fort Madison penitentiary after Judge F O Ellison pronounced sentences. William Miller of Wausau pled guilty to larceny and received up to ten years. he stole about $15 and a watch from Langworthy creamery. Herbert Wilson of Miller farm pleaded guilty and drew five years. Carl Miller of Boone got six months and costs for wife desertion with a conditional end to imprisonment if $130 is paid for a doctor’s bill and burial expenses.

Child injured as car crashes into fallen tree near Tipton
