Midwestern rains ease some relief in remote areas
Chicago report: fair weather across the north central states is predicted for Monday night and Tuesday after refreshing rains in portions of the corn belt. Forecaster A. W. Cook says no more rain of consequence is in sight though unsettled conditions with scattered showers may occur in the Dakotas and extreme northern Minnesota. Temperatures will rise in Iowa and Wisconsin Monday and spread into Indiana and Michigan Tuesday. Plains belt faces no relief from recent August highs.

Fred L Phillips Receives Military Burial in Pleas ant Grove
Fred L Phillips 40 of Cedar Rapids veteran of World War I died Thursday at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines and received a military burial from the McGregor Legion post in Pleasant Grove cemetery. He served overseas 25 months departing New York with the first American troops on the ill fated Saratoga and returning on the last ship to carry soldiers home after the war.
