Gerald Lee Wells 20 of 1912 Second Avenue SE pled guilty to driving while his license was suspended. Police said the license was suspended 30 days on July 25 after officials found him an habitual violator. He was arrested at 2:10 AM leaving the Red Barn at 2500 Zika Avenue NW. Municipal Judge Howard McLaughlin imposed the 1 day sentence at Linn County Jail.
Harold Nieuwendorp 12 of Ashton drowned at Spirit Lake while swimming on a Friday. He had been under a 30 day suspended sentence for false uttering a check, for an $18.04 bad check written to a local supermarket. The incident occurred on March 122. Authorities referenced the suspended sentence for Lester Bailey. The report lists Leonard and Mrs Nieuwendorp as the boy’s guardians.

Violetta Vavricek 39 of Oak Park NL died from injuries after an auto accident in Chicago Thursday. Born Cascade Dec 25, 1925 she worked as a special operator for Illinois North Western Bell. Survived by two sons, mother, four brothers, two sisters. Services Monday 4 a.m. Immaculate Conception Cascade. Rosary Sunday 7:30 p.m. Monahan-Stewart funeral home.
Cedar Rapids residents Frank J Walker 72 of 822 Eighth Avenue SE died Friday after a brief illness. Born Aug 1 1892 in Evansville Ind he attended World War I service and was married to Grace Coleman in 1924. His survivors are his wife with memorial services to be held at Turner chapel. Frank S Hough lifelong Cedar Rapids resident and retired brick mason died Saturday. Born in 186 he married Beulah Reynolds in 1929. Surviving are his wife two sons two daughters four grandchildren a sister and a brother. Memorial services at Turner chapel and burial at Shiloh follow.
Marilyn Geiger a Cedar Rapids resident and former school speech therapist died following a lingering illness at age 29 not 27 She had worked eight years in Cedar Rapids schools held degrees from State College of Iowa and University of Iowa and was active in local civic groups Memorial services set at Turner Chapel with Dr Glenn W McMichael in charge and visitation planned at the chapel
Lt Col Oscar Buchholz, sought after vanishing from Fort Monroe since July, was jailed in Dallas after an FBI chase ended at a Sears Roebuck. Authorities cited a nationwide alert for his arrest while he tried to flee in a car. Buchholz, 45, had worked at CONARC logistics and held World War I and Korea service decorations.
Detectives investigated a break in at Miller's Motor Sales Inc. at 1003 Second Avenue SE in which a German automatic handgun, a $143 cash loss, a gun holster and clip, a generator and a starter were taken.
