New York reports Marilyn Monroe is being offered the part of Gruishenka in a TV presentation of Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov. Albert McCleery, executive producer of Matinee Theater, announced he would give her a chance to show she can handle serious drama.
Voters in the Urbana school district will go to the polls Tuesday to ballot on a proposed 92000 bond issue. Polls will be open from noon to 7 p m. The money would fund an addition for a primary unit with full sized classrooms for kindergarten through third grade and a music room for instrumental and vocal classes.
A 21 year old Cedar Rapids woman, Mrs. Charles W. Goering Jr., died Saturday at University Hospitals Iowa City after a Draport curve crash Friday. She was injured at 4:30 p.m. Friday, sustained fractures and internal injuries, and was moved from Mercy Cedar Rapids to University hospitals. Survived by husband, parents in Adel, and siblings, services set in Des Moines Tuesday.
Special to The Gazette West Union. The Fayette County budget hearing will be held at 2 p m Tuesday Aug 16 according to county auditor Hazel Gehring. The board of supervisors estimates the coming year's budget will be 4075 dollars lower than this year. The 1956 total budget is outlined in the published estimate.
The county projects $820,000 next year versus $824,075 this year. Savings come from handling of institution patients with state care cut from $85,000 to $50,000. County aims to care for more at the enlarged county home and reports poor relief requests up by $21,200, yielding a net saving of $13,800 in this area.

Dr J W MaHood aged 90 a former general evangelist for the Northwest Methodist conference died early Monday at a Methodist home for the aged He came from Canada 65 years ago preaching first at Wail Lake then Sioux City later becoming general evangelist He traveled the United States Canada and England for the church before retiring in 1929 After retirement he went to Toronto to organize a theological school for missionaries He wrote a study manual for theological students and another theological book was being printed at the time of his death
