Unofficial Monday receipts show hogs 9 000, cattle 20 000, sheep 2 000. Hogs under 190 pounds fell 25 to 50 cents. heavier hogs steady to 25 higher. Lows up 25 to 50. Steers steady to 1 down. poorer offerings declined most. Heifers steady to 1 lower, under 800 head most affected. Choice and prime steer lots led the offering.
Chicago livestock prices show hogs steady with bulk 14.50 to 16.25, heavy and medium 14.50 to 16.25, light 15.25 to 16.50, light lights 10.00 to 13.50, packing sows 10.00 to 15.75, pigs 3.00 to 11.00. Cattle receipts about 200 with varied values from 11.00 to 24.59 for steers, yearlings 15.00 to 25.00, cows 11.00 to 14.00, bulls 11.00 to 15.50, calves 15.00 to 23.00, feeders 15.00 to 22.00, stocker steers 15.00 to 22.50, stocker cows 10.00 to 19.50. Sheep receipts 100, lambs 21.25 to 22.25, common to choice 10.00 to 21.00, yearlings 10.00 to 17.50, owes 2.50 to 5.00.
DES MOINES reports Saturday receipts about 27 000, week prior 26 000, year ago 24 500, with Friday actuals 37 000. Butchers list steady prices across hog weights from 160 to 400 pounds, with live hogs in ranges 12 75 to 16 25 per hundredweight and sows 13 25 to 15 25.
Market report lists prime steers ranging 21.50 to 23.00 with other cattle grades from 10.50 to 21.50, calves 19.60 to 21.00, and commercial cows 9.60 to 12.00. Sheep and lamb values show good and prime lambs at 15.50 to 19.50, ewes 2.00 to 4.00, buck lambs 1.00, plus poultry, wool, grain, and egg quotes.
West Berlin police report a former East zone major, Sylvester Murau, was kidnapped by Red agents with help from his daughter. Murau lured from Darmstadt to East Berlin and brought across the frontier July 23 or 24. Engineers Joachim Tietze and Heinz Horeis, both 24, were arrested in West Berlin. a $2,400 reward was paid by East Germany security forces.
Col John H Dilley Frankfurt sub-area commander condemns unruly pets of U S servicemen. He warned owners their dogs would be evicted within 36 hours if misbehaving. Dilley, a dog owner, notes 1138 dogs registered in the Frankfurt sub-area.
Concord New Hampshire AP report: after a 13 hour session the legislature sustained Gov Lane Dwinnell's veto of a bill to create a state operated sweepstakes. the measure aimed to raise about two million dollars annually in revenue for the state.
Iowa City officers hold two Des Moines men, Robert Jones and Charles Hummel, on Eluding or defrauding charges in Des Moines and Indianola. A 17 year old Enid Oklahoma youth, Matthew Custer, is in custody for investigation. Jones suffers third degree burns from a tar barrel explosion near a roof project in Raton New Mexico.
Ed Melhus 81 retired farmer died this morning after a long illness. Born October 20, 1874 in Helmelad Norway he came to the United States at age 16. He married Olisa Dyrland February 16 1910. Survived by wife a son Oakley of Norway a daughter Mrs Loren Wendel of Watkins and a brother Jonas of Forest City. Funeral arrangements await word from his son on vacation in California.
In municipal court Saturday morning, Ber nice Gaal 33 of 1800 McCarthy read SE was fined 25 dollars with 15 suspended after she threw a glass of beer at bartender Lenore Kimball at the Melody Inn Friday night. Kimball reported she acted on management orders to remove Gaal.
Dr Fred A Abodeely of Berkeley California son of Mrs Eli Abodeely of 525 Fifth Avenue SE has won a two year research fellowship at the University of California Berkeley worth 4100 dollars yearly The grant comes from the United States Public Health Service National Heart Institute He recently completed his medical internship at a Berkeley hospital and had an externship at St Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids two years ago.

IOWA CITY The Johnson county board of education overruled objections and approved the Lone Tree school district boundaries extending into Fremont Pleasant Valley and Lincoln townships and all of Lone Tree. Frank Snider has 30 days to set an election date while two court suits seek a temporary injunction against the merger vote.
Washington report that Harold E. Stassen was sworn in as U S deputy representative on the United Nations Disarmament Commission. President Eisenhower quipped that he often swears in Stassen, noting this is his third oath under the Eisenhower administration. Stassen remains special assistant to the president for disarmament and has served as foreign aid chief.
Three Eastern Iowans are polio patients at University hospitals in Iowa City. They are Rollie Rowe two, Elvin Lourens fifteen, and Marlene Walker twenty one, all listed in fair condition. Mary Flake sixteen and Juanita Eden seventeen have been discharged from the polio ward.
Margaret Truman sailed from New York aboard the United States for a seven week tour of Europe. Her first stop will be Salzburg where Gurie Lie, daughter of former United Nations Secretary-General Trygve Lie, will join her.

North west Airlines pilot George Stone from Minneapolis landed a four engine Stratocruiser after running out of braking power. He used full left rudder to veer off the runway and through a fence into Central avenue, narrowly missing a car. No one aboard was hurt though two women in the car were treated for shock. Co-pilot Ralph Graves credited Stone with averting a major tragedy.
Frederick Chapman son of Scotland Yard chief detective was charged with murdering his wife and infant daughter. The 40 year old school master was questioned for hours then booked for court. Police found a bloodstained hammer and poker at the Orpington home after his call to a Brighton police station.
Senator Kefauver said the American Democratic Action claim that both President Eisenhower and congressional leaders ignore the public interest is unjust. ADA leaders argued for stronger domestic remedies, while Kefauver praised foreign affairs progress and urged action on school construction highways Social Security water resources and farm legislation in the next session.
William Johnson, 72, of 307 Sixth Avenue SW, was crossing First Street at Fourth Avenue SW when hit by a car driven by 70 year old Vennelen J. Jarosh on Allview Drive. Johnson suffered cuts and bruises to his lip, nose, left arm, and left knee. he was treated at St Luke’s hospital. Police filed no charges.
President Eisenhower used a new light air force plane costing just under 75000 dollars for a Friday trip to his Gettysburg farm. The craft replaces an older model leased from Aero Design and Engineering Company at 40 dollars per flight hour. The small plane seats two crew plus 10 in the Columbine IIIs for longer trips, with a 25 gallon hour fuel use and 16 cent per gallon fuel cost.
