Palo Youth Given Probation After Break-Ins

Clarke Bradley age 18 of Palo was sentenced to ten years in the men’s reformatory at Anamosa then placed on probation after pleading guilty to breaking and entering before Judge B J Maxwell. Bradley is among eight Palo teenagers arrested last week in two Palo break-ins and the thefts of a truck and a car. Three youths have been referred to juvenile officials.

Sadgment in Marlon bank suit over promissory note

First National Bank of Marlon sued Jack Zuecher over a promissory note. A judgment awarded $515 plus costs. The case names the bank as plaintiff and Zuecher as defendant in the civil action.

Bids Received Yet City Council Delays Action on Projects

The city council opened bids on two projects but took no action. Low bid for sanitary sewer on the east side of highway 30 was Milan W. Freese Construction Co. at 8797.50, with a second bid $250 over estimate. Rebuilding C and J street SW bridges, water main extension on Wiley boulevard NW, and a special session were also deferred. Guy Wright, 57, faces criminal charges after Linn county grand jury indictment for alleged acts with a minor.

Suit Filed Over Eight Thousand Dollar Property Sale

Lawrence M. and Donna K. Tupy sue Harold Cummings in Linn district court seeking $8,000 unpaid balance after alleged failure to complete a sale. Contract dated July 9 covers the northwest 30 feet of lot six, block seven, Mayfair and Gunners addition to West Cedar Rapids. Cummings allegedly refused the abstract. Marion resident, 67, denies morals charge. Everett L. Lurth, 67, of 880 Second Street, Marion, pled innocent to a lascivious acts with a minor charge before Judge Charles Penningrath. bail set at $1,000.

Civic groups invited to Des Moines Cedar Rapids budget hearing

Civic groups and industrial firms were invited to attend Des Moines Cedar Rapids area budget hearing set for Aug 12 at 8:30 a.m. in city hall council chambers. Mayor Johnson urged citizen interest in tax expenditures as the 1983 city budget totals 11,244,890.

Marvin Runs Afoul of John And into Jail

Marvin Law of 712 Fourth avenue SE Cedar Rapids was arrested in the 100 block of Fifth street SE on drunkenness charges. He received a 60 day county jail term after a 30 day sentence and a suspended sentence were revoked in municipal court Wednesday.
