Legislators Eye Tax Relief and Revenue as Session Ends
In Iowa's 38th Senate district three lawmakers push key issues as the 1977 session nears conclusion. Senator Richard Drake urges passage of the property tax relief package, higher gasoline and diesel taxes, and action on land use and unemployment security fund mandates. Representative Betty Hoffman stresses revenue needs to fund the auditor’s office and highway maintenance, and seeks higher education funding aligned with the Senate. Representative Walter Conlon backs a juvenile justice compromise. Drake, Hoffman, and Conlon are all in their first year in their respective chambers. Drake represents the 38th district encompassing Muscatine and parts of nearby counties. Hoffman covers the 75th district. Conlon the 76th.
