General Singlaub to retire after second public Carter criticism

Maj. Gen. John Singlaub agreed to retire following his second public rebuke of President Carter's defense policies. The retirement was recommended by Gen. Frederick Croesen after Singlaub met with Army Secretary Clifford Alexander and Gen. Bernard Rogers, with Singlaub filing papers but an exact date undecided. He had criticized arms talks, the B 1 bomber, the neutron warhead, and Panama Canal treaties while asserting U.S. military readiness.
