Ford Says War Over but Asks Military Aid
President Ford maintains the Vietnam war is over for Americans yet seeks congressional approval for military aid to South Vietnam. Press Secretary Ron Nessen says aid would stabilize the situation and aid a cease fire or negotiated settlement. Sturgeon Denied Term Reduction by Federal Judge
U S District Judge Edward J. McManus denied a request by Thomas Sturgeon former Cedar Rapids chiropractor for a reduction of his 10 year federal sentence on eight counts of counterfeiting He began serving January 15 at Terre Haute maximum security federal penitentiary in Indiana after his 1973 conviction and appeal efforts failed.

Unemployment in the Cedar Rapids Area Rises in March
The Cedar Rapids area jobless rate climbs to 5.6 percent in March, up from February. Unemployment totals rise to 4,400 from 4,200, with last year’s rates higher at 6.3 percent in March 1974. Manufacturing cuts hit machinery and food processing while retail and service gains offset some losses. Earnings average 217.46 dollars in March with overtime at 2.7 hours. Hit and Run Injures Woman Riding Bicycle
Cindy Lea Bronner 23 of 1825 Ninth Street SW was hospitalized in good condition at Mercy after a hit and run. She suffered a fractured left wrist and ankle abrasions when a northbound white Chevrolet 1965 or 1966 struck her from the right side as she crossed Sixth Street at Twenty second Avenue SW and the car fled.
