A Waterloo father and son were fined one dollar each in Cedar Rapids federal court after pleading guilty to FCC violations involving CB radios. Carl Beason faced three counts, Albert five, and Mrs Arline Beason one. The plea bargain required surrender of three CB radios to the government and limited other charges. Max fines were $500 per count. The government labeled the Beasons as nuisances who broadcast over the air.
The Cedar Rapids parks department announced that garden plots in the Manhattan Robbins lake area are plowed and staked. Reserved gardeners must bring certificates of insurance to the city clerk's office on the fourth floor of city hall between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for plot assignment. A later notice will cover other areas.

Sheriff Ken Paulsen declined to comment on racial motivation as investigators review possible retaliation linked to a black man’s sentencing. Six victims were injured, injuries found Wednesday morning. suspects named include Clarence Hutt, 32, Andrew Johnson, 32, David Joiner, 24, Albert Armstrong, 20, Jerry Edward, 26, John Johnson, 25, and Barnette Stafford, 29.
