DNA as proof needed to crack decades-old ID theft
University of Iowa Police Detective Ian Mallory faced two men claiming to be a victim of identity theft. Matthew Keirans, 58, of Hartland Wisconsin, and William Woods, 55, of California, both acknowledged the other and alleged identity theft. One presented as a hospital IT systems lead. the other appeared homeless and possibly mentally ill. Both claimed to be William Donald Woods, prompting investigators to seek decisive DNA evidence.
