UNI Professor and Student Die in Colorado Plane Crash
A single engine plane carrying University of Northern Iowa professor Lyle Schwarzenbach and student James Gogola crashed Friday at Elbert County near Denver amid stormy weather. Schwarzenbach, 49, a longtime UNI educator and consultant, was piloting the aircraft en route to Colorado Springs to visit his son at the Air Force Academy. Gogola, 22, of Cedar Falls, was a high school friend of Schwarzenbach’s son Todd. The FAA investigates the crash, with weather suspected as a factor.
