U.S. civilians flee Nha Trang as 100 Vietnamese employees and families remain behind at a US compound. Armed guards prevent promised evacuation, and chaos breaks out as helicopters depart. South Vietnamese fall to enemy forces hours later, triggering anger over government responsibility.
Twenty parking meters valued at 1 730 dollars were reported stolen from various downtown locations. Walter Sweet says meters were taken between Friday and Monday, raising the weekend total to 32 stolen. Thieves removed 18 meters from the underground lot on May's Island. 33 more were damaged there. Repair costs estimated at 1 573.19 dollars by Mel Meyer.
The U S embassy says nearly 15 percent of its about 200 staff will be evacuated temporarily to Bangkok. A U S cargo plane was hit by rifle fire from Khmer Rouge insurgents but airlift continues.
