Springer Institute Demolition Marks City School History
The Springer Institute building in Cincinnati is being torn down after earlier restoration work was started on the old Cathedral. Founded in 1884 through Reuben Springer’s $30,000 bequest, the Alma Mater served as a combined elementary and high school, once enrolling about 600 students. Its fate shifted in 1944 when declining Catholic families left the basin, and it later became a school for students with unusual needs.
