Thirty-eight Catholic Boy Scouts of Greater Cincinnati received Ad Altare Dei awards from Bishop George J. Behring in a ceremony at the Old Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains. The first class scouts earned the award for 250 hours serving as altar or choir members. The event was the fourth annual in Cincinnati with officials and Catholic troop representatives attending.

The annual novena of grace in honor of St Francis Xavier will run March 4 to 12 at Bellarmine Chapel, Xavier University. Rev Gerald A Fitzgibbons will lead. nightly devotions start 7 45 p m. Fr James I O Connor will speak at 7 45 p m each Wednesday during Lent with topics Shipwreck Font of Grace Lifes Battlefield and The Final One. On March 7 Fr O Connor will give a novena talk. additional Lent talks occur Fridays at 8 p m.
The report lists eleven men killed in action, three missing, and seven wounded in the past week among archdiocesan service members. Lt. William N. Anahu, 28, killed over Mindoro, leaves a widow and young son. Capt. William E. McDonald, 25, killed in action January 9 in Belgium, was a Dayton University graduate.
Edwin J. Stephan Jr was honored at a February 11 dinner in St Josephs parish auditorium for twelve years of service to the Boy Scouts in the city. The Ad Altare Dei award was presented by Rev John F Cogan with remarks by Father Cogan and others praising his decade as scoutmaster and two years as troop committee member.
The NCCS Religious Kits committee in Cincinnati distributed 10119 religious kits to service men in 1944. In three years 215482 articles have been sent. The committee, supervised by the International Federation of Catholic Alumnae and aided by Cincinnati PTAs, asks for old rosaries and medals for repair and redistribution.
A Tri-College Prom raised funds in support of Mt. St. Joseph University Our Lady of Cincinnati College and Xavier University. Miss Mary K. Williams accepted the donation in the name of the USO with the Xavier student council present. James Englert spoke for the Xavier classes during the event.
