Protest in Washington over Truman Vatican appointment
The Observer notes about 10 000 protesters, mostly women, gathered in Washington to oppose President Truman’s move to appoint war to the Vatican. Franciscan Loveland Training Center Discontinued
The Franciscan authorities in Cincinnati decided to discontinue St. Annas Train house in Loveland for Franciscan lay brothers. Training will move back to St. Anthonys novitiate in Cincinnati and Duns Scotus College in Detroit, as before the Loveland project opened in 1948. The 18 room two story house on 11 acres along Union Cemetery road will be sold.

Day and Grailville host closed retreat center in Dayton
Dominican Sisters of the Conception of St. Catherine de Ricci will run a new retreat house in Dayton with week long and three day programs. Four staff from the order supervise the former Seybold property a four and one half acre site featuring a chapel a conference room a library a sun porch and a garden. The Sisters purchased the building from the Seybold heirs after restoring the four story stone mansion. They aim to serve local women seeking spiritual retreat and community life.

Zande Language Catechism Printed For Africa Mission
The Premier Press of Cincinnati produced a Zande catechism and 35 pages of words for the first Catholic catechism in the Zande language spoken by about 2,000,000 people in Central Africa. Monsignor Ferrara and printer Louis Reitenbach funded and directed the effort. 2,000 copies will be sent to Africa next month, aiding literacy and religious teaching. A New Testament may follow with a donor funding 5,000 copies.

Tito’s Hatred for Church Leaves Palanka With Few Faith Holders
An 88 year old Yugoslav arrival, Mrs. Victoria Toth, recounts Yugoslavia under Tito, where a single priest remains, one church operates and no nuns remain in Palanka. She arrived in Cincinnati January to join her daughter, residing at St. Martin's Cheviot. She says priests and sisters were removed by the regime.

Marianist Brothers Plan Golden Jubilee Observance
Two Marianist brothers Brother Leo Sieben S M and Brother Frederick Hartwich S M natives of Chicago and members of the Cincinnati province will mark the golden jubilee of their religious profession on Sunday the 30th. Sieben has spent more than 30 of his 50 years in religion as a prefect of scholastics and has supervised the province archives at Mt St John Dayton. Hartwich began teaching in Cincinnati and Dayton and studied in Fribourg Switzerland before a 23 year tenure directing Marianist high schools. He helped plan the 1950 centennial celebration and has served as principal in multiple Marianist schools including Chaminade Dayton, Covington Pittsburgh and North Side Catholic high school.
