St Remy s parish in Russia observes its 100th anniversary this Sunday August 17 with a 10 30 a m Solemn Mass in the brick church. Arch Bishop Alter will preside and Father Clement Goubeaux will celebrate the Mass with Father Aloysius F Leon delivering the sermon. Father Frank A Ratterman has guided the parish since 1921 supervising school church and convent improvements and a high school erection.

The log church dedicated in 1852 by Archbishop Purcell served Alsace-Lorraine immigrants in Russia Shelby county. Its successor brick church was dedicated in 1868. Father Frank A. Ratterman has led St. Remy’s for 31 years.

St John Vianney parish Madison Place schedules a cornerstone ceremony for its nine classroom school building after the noon Mass on Sunday August 17 with Vicar General Mann officiating. Monsignor Hoban says the school should be ready for occupancy in September 1953. The parish began in 1949 and already built a chapel and assembly hall.
